Lean beef and health

A well-nourished body helps you feel great and get the most out of life.  If you want to eat highly nutritious low-fat meals, lean beef is an excellent choice.

The medical profession and scientists agree that eating lean meat, as part of a balanced diet, is good for a person’s health.  Lean beef is an important source of 14 essential nutrients, including zinc for healthy growth, iron for oxygen, proteins to build and repair the body and B-complex vitamins.  To stay healthy, Canada’s Food Guide recommends eating 1 to 3 servings of meat or meat substitutes every day.

Lean beef can be part of a diet to lower cholesterol.  Studies suggest that low-fat diets that include lean beef are as effective in lowering cholesterol as low-fat diets based on chicken or fish.  In addition, according to recent research, beef contains nutrients, selenium and conjugated linoleic acid, that can help prevent cancer.

Healthy eating is a question of balance, moderation and variety that includes beef.
